Breast Feeding Campaign

BFPICBF3

  •      Breastfeeding can be tough. But it’s important for parents who chose to and are able to breastfeed to remember any challenges that come with breastfeeding won’t last forever. With the right help and support mum’s can overcome them and although there may be ups and downs along the way, there will be moments of bliss for both baby and parent.
  •      Mums who have not breastfed before or don’t know anyone who has, may feel intimidated and worried about the experience. It’s important for mums to talk with friends, family and other parents about their concerns to help to reduce the overwhelming feeling that can sometimes come with breastfeeding.
  •      Breastfeeding groups, can be a great support for mums and partners, helping them to overcome any feelings of anxiety or concerns. Health professionals are there to listen to and can help address any issues or worries.
  •      Breastfeeding out and about can be a nerve-racking experience at first. Going out with a partner or friend can help mums to feel more confident and comfortable when feeding in public for the first few times.
  •      It’s important for new parents to discuss feeding options before baby arrives and talk about how partners can provide practical and emotional help if mum wants to breastfeed, and especially how they can support mum if they face any breastfeeding challenges. Overcoming any problems will be much easier for mum knowing they have the support from a partner.
  •      Even if as a partner you feel helpless, like there’s nothing you can do to help, in reality, there are loads of positive things you can do to support your partner to breastfeed.  For example, always make sure they have everything they need around them when they settle in for a feed or just be there for any emotional support she needs too.
  •      It’s important to celebrate every milestone when raising a baby, no matter how big or how small. Breastfeeding can be challenging for everyone whether you’re a mum feeding the baby or a partner supporting mum through it. It's important to take time to recognise all you've achieved and remember that all new parents can face challenges, you’re not alone.
  •      Offering support can really help a new mum's confidence, whether it's listening to their worries, keeping them company when breastfeeding out and about or just letting them know they're doing a brilliant job.
